Overnight in a superior room at the Eka hotel on a bed and breakfast basis. Clients may choose to add an optional excursion depending on their arrival time.
Day 2
After breakfast, depart Nairobi for Kenya’s verdant highlands, where you will journey down the rift escarpment on a road built by Italian POWs during WWII. On the way, look for the lovely chapel built at the escarpment’s base. As you travel over the valley to Narok, pass the spectacular Longonot earth satellite station; continue your journey through acres of wheat and barley before arriving in the Masai Mara in time for lunch. Set out on your first game drive after lunch, returning to the lodge as the sun sets. On a full board basis, spend the night at Keekorok Lodge.
Approximate driving time: 5 hours
Day 3
After an early breakfast, go on a morning game drive before returning to the camp in the afternoon. Set out on another game drive after lunch and perhaps a snooze, returning to the lodge as the sun sets.
On a full board basis, spend the night at Keekorok Lodge.
Day 4
Leaving the Masai Mara after breakfast, continue north to Narok, the district headquarters for this portion of Maasailand, through Kenya’s “breadbasket,” where acres of wheat and barley litter the landscape. As you ascend the Mai-Mahiu, keep a watch out for herds of giraffe and gazelle before arriving at Lake Nakuru around midday. View game en route to the lodge once you’ve arrived in the park.
After lunch and a nap, you’ll go on an afternoon game drive before returning to the resort as the sun sets. Flamingos can be seen at the national park, which is famed for its birds. Black and white rhinos, as well as the endangered Rothschild Giraffe, call it home. On a full board basis, spend the night at Lake Nakuru Lodge.
Time to drive: 5.5 hours
Day 5
After an early breakfast, you depart Lake Nakuru and go to Nairobi, then south to Amboseli, stopping for a picnic lunch along the way. Game watching is available en route to the lodge, which is reached as the sun sets.
On a full board basis, spend the night at Ol tukai Lodge.
Approximate driving time: 7 hours
Day 6
After a morning game drive, spend the rest of the morning at leisure before heading to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, travel to Tsavo West. The route takes you east, via the beautiful Shetani lava flow, a reminder of the three centuries of molten outpouring that poured down the scenic slopes of the adjacent Chyulu Hills. Tsavo National Park is entered via a zig-zagging road amid scrub thorn and acacia. Tsavo National Park (East and West) is Kenya’s largest park. Enjoy game viewing en route to your resort when you arrive. As the sun sets, arrive at your lodge. On a full board basis, spend the night at Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge.
Approximate driving time: 3 hours
Day 7
Enjoy a game drive in the park this morning, which includes a stop at Mzima Springs, which has underwater viewing holes. Continue to Taita Hills Game Sanctuary after lunch for the remainder of the afternoon at leisure, seeing game from the lodge’s subterranean hide or the lodge balcony. On a fullboard basis, spend the night at Sarova Saltlick Game Lodge.
Approximate driving time: 3 hours
Day 8
After breakfast, head to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary for a morning game drive. Lunch will be served at Salt Lick Game Lodge before continuing on to Mombasa, where you should arrive by late afternoon at your North or South Coast beach hotel.
